Lets just make everything look vintage…

Happy Friday!

Recently I have been noticing lots of designers that take the “default route” to making logos or other designs have that over used vintage look. Yes, it’s true, vintage is IN, but that doesn’t mean that a vintage look is the best solution to every single design situation that a designer is encountered with. For example, the logo above is a redesign of the logo for mailchimp. First of all, the logo makes absolutely so sense since Mailchimp is an online mailing research that allows you to track and send massive amounts of emails. Maybe the designer was trying to get across the idea that by using Mailchimp you’re saving trees? I’m not exactly sure, however why would a completely technology based company have a vintage logo? Basically, this desginer just wanted to make something look good vs. what is the best design for the company.

However, don’t get me wrong, I think vintage design is very effective and gives you a sense of history and age, when used correctly. The logos above are examples of “smart vintage design”. The portray companies like a coffee house and restaurants that have an aged look or feel to them. The older look was done intentionally because the designer knows and understands who the company is and represents the company correctly with the logo.

Thank you “smart vintage designers”.

Kitkat Bench…

Guerrilla marketing is by far my most favorite type of advertising and the most creative. This bench is so simple, but immediately makes you think of Kitkat’s famous jingle “break me off a piece of that Kitkat bar”. Advertising has became so immersed in social media, that advertisers forget to spend time and encourage companies to continue to invest in creative forms of marketing. If people are entertained by advertising, or laugh at it, they won’t hate it.

You can’t fast forward past a cleverly designed bench. Unless you just walk REALLY fast…

My first post… with coffee at my side

My first Blog Post!

I found this image on Pinterest and thought it best described that mood I am in right now, and that is, WIDE AWAKE. Clearly I am a coffee drinker. It’s similar to a tobacco addiction, however I can totally quit… I think? What I find ironic about this image is that owls are up all night and coffee is normally a morning thing for people (except for me it’s an all day thing).

I am currently sipping on coffee at my internship at Engdahl Richards. in St. Cloud, MN. It’s an advertising agency. It’s true, advertisers drink caffeine all day, talk about strange creative weird things, and occasionally hide clowns in each others offices. Basically, imagine working at a bank… and then imagine the exact opposite. That’s probably pretty close to the environment and life at an ad agency.

Now that I have officially made my first post, I am going to grab another cup of coffee, throw in some creamer, and try to get my eyeballs to open as wide as Mr. owl’s.
